In this Workshop you'll learn:
1. How to read the horse eye before you draw it
You will learn how to look at the shape, shadow areas, lashes, surrounding bone structure, and the “soft expression” that makes a horse eye feel realistic.
2. Building depth with pressure, layers, and shadows
I will guide you through light pressure, gradual layering, darker values, and soft blending so the eye starts to feel dimensional instead of flat.
3. Adding the final sparkle: highlights, softness, and emotion
The final section will focus on reflection, tiny highlights, soft edges, and the surrounding fur texture that makes the eye feel alive.

Hello, I’m Rhia :)
I’m an award-winning equestrian artist based in South Wales, specializing in highly realistic horse and animal portraits created with coloured pencils.
My work is rooted in a lifelong love for animals, especially horses. I’ve always been drawn to the quiet details that make each one unique: the softness in their eye, the movement of the mane, the shine of the coat, and the character that comes through in the smallest expressions.
Over the years, I’ve created private commissions for horse and pet owners around the world, along with original artwork, fine art prints, tutorials, and equestrian-inspired collections. My work has also been recognized through awards in the equestrian art world, something I’m incredibly grateful for.
But for me, a portrait has never been only about technical accuracy. It’s about capturing likeness, personality, softness, and spirit in a way that feels meaningful to the person who loves that animal.
